This an assignment for a course I’m taking at ECIAD. The purpose of it is to take a public space and change its perception to a viewer. I chose a spot on Granville Island where several years ago,I witnessed the aftermath of a suicide . It was late on a rainy evening when I saw a police officer taking photos of a lump of cloths and then another putting yellow tape up. Then I realized that the lump of laundry was a body and instantly looked up to the bridge where it came from. I walked away stunned.
I chose this spot for two reasons. The first was to take this tourist site and let people know that it also is a place of sorrow. (Just last year there was another jumper that I heard about, probably a lot more though.) The second is the space between a and b. I see it as segment in space and I am trying to capture and manipulate it. Perhaps my choice of methodology overshadows this (should I edit the red out????). But I believe in doing art that is personnel to me and might have some social content.

I definitely like the idea. I’m just wondering if the ‘B’ will actually be that big. It looks like it will take a lot of vinyl. Especially all that red.
I know it is a serious matter, but I find the blunt ‘A to B’ diagram to be kind of funny. I’m probably sick though.
Connect the dots. Anthony, you really are working the simplicity of the text to your advantage here.
Pling- If you’re sick- i guess i should join the club.
when i was in high school the sister of a friend of mine jumped of the Lions Gate Bridge – needless to say, she did not survive.
she had told a friend of hers, lets call her jen, that she wanted to jump and would jen drive her there…jen did. jen was young and did not understand this was a cry for help, rather than it being the honouring of her best friend’s wishes. jen was ostercized by the community and ended up in therapy for many years, as did my friend, and her family.
i remember it being as a hypereal experience when i heard the news; colours were more intense, sound was sharper, and emotions tingled on the surface of my skin through to the core of my gut.
